Flowers in a Jar - Wedding Florist

Updated: May 6, 2020

I chose Flowers in a Jar to be included in this event, as Owner and Head Designer Kathy creates beautiful Floral Arrangements and Bouquets, with top-quality flowers. Her passion for what she does is clear not only from the way she talks about it, but from the finished product too!

Kathy will work with you to create beautiful florals to perfectly complement your Colour Scheme and Natural Beauty, whilst offering alternative, more sustainable solutions, rather than the traditional floral foam.

You can see get to know Kathy, see her studio and hear some of her Floristry Tips below, during her video from the Virtual Wedding Fayre.

The wonderful Kathy has also written the piece below the video, showing you just why you should choose her to design your Bouquets, Centrepieces and more on your special day - Thank you Kathy! xo

If you'd like to talk to Kathy, I've included her contact details at the bottom of this piece, or you can leave a comment below this piece and I'll pass her your email address! 🤍

Flowers in a Jar - Beautiful Florals, Created with Love

We are a family run business, we pride ourselves on our outstanding customer service, our attention to detail and going that extra mile for each and every one of our amazing couples.

Every single Wedding for us is unique, from the very first meeting, where we get to know the couples, discussing all the details, going through their Pinterest boards that have been lovingly put together, we absolutely love being part of the Wedding memories that are being created.

For me, as head designer, it has always been about the detailing, whether it’s creating a silk floral garland for their beloved doggie, the ring bearer or filling a venue with the most gorgeous flowers and foliage, every single element is lovingly put together from start to finish. We personally select all the flowers and foliage from our suppliers at Covent Garden Flower Market - being able to choose the perfect seasonal flower at 4 o'clock in the morning is absolutely fantastic. The fragrance and atmosphere at the Market is mesmerising and the knowledge from our suppliers is incredible.

My background is visual merchandising, back in the day, I was window dressing for John Lewis in Oxford Street, I loved the creativity of this role, the freedom to express myself and the knowledge that my creations were drawing customers into the store, so when I chose to study floristry, the similarities in both fields fuelled my creativity even further.

I feel very lucky indeed to have the luxury of having enjoyed all of my career paths. For me, this is a vocation - to be able to bring such joy when delivering the bridal bouquet, to be able to help and advise all our lovely couples to have the wedding day that they have dreamed of and for our little business to be ethical and sustainable.

The one element that has always been my reason to work hard, to be creative and to project love in my work, is my son Jamie Anthony Redmond, he has given me the courage to build our business, he is my JAR in Flowers in a Jar.....

Q&As

What areas do you cover/How far can you deliver the flowers?

We cover all areas, this would be taken into account with our delivery costs.

What is your favourite part of what you do?

Oh my goodness, all of the varying stages, but if I had to choose it would be delivering the bridal bouquet. To see the bride and everyone in the room's reaction, that "Wow" and happy tears, from me too!!

What's your Favourite Flower?

So many to choose from. However, I absolutely love Dahlia, this gorgeous flower comes in so many beautiful colours, so our September weddings will generally have this little flower in amongst our creations.

What makes your company different?

I truly believe it is our passion for each and every one of our weddings. We will select every single stem from Covent Garden Flower market, ensuring freshness and quality. Every one of our couples knows their wedding is unique and that we are so honoured to be part of their most special day.

Last year, using dried flowers in Wedding Bouquets was trending. What do you hope will start to trend in Wedding Florals?

The trend that we encourage is moving away from floristry foam, by using votives that can be reused and recycled. More than half of our future weddings are using glass jars for pew ends, then using them for their centrepiece dressing. They can then use them as gifts for friends and family.

Why did you decide to become a Wedding Florist?

My background is visual merchandising, so the training for both areas is so similar. I have always wanted to have my own business, to be creative and being in an industry that is surrounded by love and joy - what is there not to love??

Does any Couple you've worked with stand out for you?

All of our couples are absolutely wonderful, from our first meeting right through to their special day. We are always blown away by their cards and emails straight after their wedding to express their sincere gratitude for all our hard work and stunning flowers.

Who are you in lockdown with and how are you staying sane/passing the time?

I am in lockdown with my Husband Graham and son Jamie. Also our Maltese terrier Archie and we are soon to get his puppy half-brother, Winston! So that will certainly keep us busy!

We have been continuing our appointments over the phone or via Skype, which is wonderful. I have also been setting up our Etsy shop ‘flowersinajarshop’, selling unique creations made from silk flowers, including handbags, wrist corsages and hair combs. Also trying to keep on top of paperwork and of course watching a bit of rubbish!

With things the way they are at the moment, what's your postponement/cancellation policy?

If our couples have to make the very difficult decision to postpone, we are moving everything to their new date. Payment dates can also be moved, if this makes it a little easier for them. If the heartbreaking decision of cancelling the wedding altogether has to be made, we will refund any money that hasn’t been used for their individual wedding. Our small deposit is non refundable.

What are your 3 Desert Island Items? - i.e. If you were stuck on a desert island and could only have 3 items, what would they be?

Ooohhhh.. definitely my floristry scissors, so I can keep being creative, suncream and pictures of my family.

What's your favourite season for Weddings and why?

Gosh... all seasons have their own individual beauty, but as I love anything and everything Christmas, it would have to be a winter wedding.

This Wedding Fayre is raising money for Mind, the Mental Health Charity - Why do you personally feel like this is a great cause?

For me personally, our fragile mental health needs the care and compassion that any physical injury would get. A charity such as Mind is there at varying times in all of our lives when we may need someone to talk to, someone who will listen and someone who will care for us.

Thank you to Kathy at Flowers in a Jar, for getting involved in this Event! xo
