I chose The Boat Shed at Salt to be included in this event, as it's a gorgeous new venue by the Sea, that was about to launch, when venues were told they had to close. What that does mean is this venue is a little undiscovered gem, likely to be available for your date, IF you snap it up now!

What I really love about The Boat Shed at Salt, is the owners also own Salt Cafe next door to the venue, where my partner (coincidentally a Mr Salt) and I like to go for lunch during the Summer and relax looking out to Sea. If, like me and The Boat Shed's Events Manager Helen, you love old Industrial Buildings and how gorgeous they look when paired with wild wedding florals and rustic decor, you'll adore The Boat Shed.

You can see a video below of The Boat Shed's Wedding Brochure, shown during the Virtual Wedding Fayre. You can also find out more below the video, as the wonderful Helen has written the following piece, showing you just why you should choose The Boat Shed at Salt to host your special day - Thank you Helen! xo

If you'd like to talk to Helen, her contact details are at the bottom of this post, or you can leave a comment underneath this post and I'll pass on your email address! 🤍

The Boat Shed - Brand New Nautical Waterside Venue

The Boat Shed offers a large, industrial-style blank canvas space, complete with bright nautical touches – think buoys, oars, life belts.

We think trestle tables, wild-look flowers and strings of festoon lighting is the ideal vibe for the space and location, but the décor really is down to your imagination.

It’s a DIY venue so you can bring your own suppliers, only the bar is run in-house. The onsite event manager (Helen from Margot’s Wedding) is on hand with her black book of contacts and offers full/partial planning services.

The Cabin is the onsite, waterside bridal suite and it’s possible to use the jetty of Salt Cafe in the evening.

How many guests can attend our Wedding at The Boat Shed at Salt?

Up to 200 standing. Seated capacity is 160.

What makes The Boat Shed at Salt different to other Venues?

It’s a rustic boat shed on a working boat yard so it’s a really alternative venue! We love the juxtaposition of the industrial space and the luxury elements of weddings; beautiful dresses, flowers etc.

What is your favourite part of what you do?

I love getting to know couples and helping them bring their ideas to life.

Does The Boat Shed have its own set of suppliers we have to use, or can we choose our own?

You can choose your own, only the bar is in-house. We have recommended suppliers within our sales brochure if you need some ideas. They’re local people we’ve worked with before and can recommend.

Are there any trends you'd really like to see more of in Weddings?

I’m not a big fan of wedding trends. I like to see couples choosing things because it sums up their personalities, not because it’s en trend.

When and why did you decide to work in Weddings and how did you end up managing The Boat Shed?

I run a wedding blog/digital magazine called Margot’s Wedding. I also run wedding fayres in Sussex and Hampshire.

I set up my business in 2009 - It was a result of a failed engagement! The relationship didn’t last, but the wedding business did. Everything happens for a reason, I guess.

I’ve been involved in lots of elements of the wedding industry over the last decade, from managing events to hire items, styling, hen parties, transport. I even had a pop up bar at one stage. I like to do different things!

Regarding how The Boat Shed came about, I got chatting to Imogen, one of the owners of the boat yard when I was in on-site Salt Café having coffee. She liked the look of my magazine and she showed me the space. It took a while for us to start working together but it’s coming together!

Does any wedding you’ve worked at stand out and why?

We are yet to hold our first wedding at The Boat Shed, the first was due to be this year in July but it looks like it will need to be postponed, either until later this year or next year.

Who are you in lockdown with and how are you staying sane/passing the time?

I’m staying with my sister, her partner and their baby for the duration of lockdown. My ex has moved into my flat and we’re sharing childcare of our four-year-old son. It’s a long story!

I’m enjoying having a break from work. I’m furloughed but am keeping up with emails, blog posts and social media. The rest of the time I’m making the most of the time with my son and things that are going on during this time, like online get togethers, yoga and meditation. It’s lovely being able to spend the time with my sister while my new niece is so young.

What is your cancellation/postponement policy during this difficult time?

As we’re a new venue and our diary isn’t full we’re happy to postpone weddings to a new date.

What are your 3 Desert Island Items? - i.e. If you were stuck on a desert island and could only have 3 items, what would they be?

A Kindle, a notebook and a pen.

What's your favourite Wedding Theme/Style and why?

Vintage/retro/mismatched. Nothing matches but everything goes! I like the juxtaposition and the cosy, safe, homely feel. I’m a very emotional, sentimental, nostalgic person. I’m a big fan of faded floral lampshades, cushions etc.

This Wedding Fayre is raising money for Mind, the Mental Health Charity - Why do you personally feel like this is a great cause?

I’ve struggled with my own mental health issues in the past and have been on a journey of self-development in recent years. I believe life can be hard and sometime things need to be addressed by professionals in order for us to live a life of ease and happiness.

Thank you Helen, for getting involved in this Event! xo

I've included Helen and The Boat Shed's contact details and important links below, please take a look and get in touch - And don't forget to leave Helen some love on this post!

Take care and stay safe everyone 🤍
