Sarah Milner - Wedding Violinist

Updated: May 5

I chose Sarah to be included in this event, as I worked with her at Katie & Nathan's Midsummer Night's Dream-themed Wedding and her gorgeous violin music really brought the whole thing together, it was absolutely beautiful.

Sarah has a mixture of classical songs and chart hits for you to choose from, to help create that romantic atmosphere - there won't be a dry eye in the house! You can see one of these in the video below, along with a bit more about Sarah and some testimonials from clients.

She also kindly provided me with a recording of the song Katie walked down the aisle to, so I could surprise the couple with a short Highlight Video of their photographs! You can see this video, with more of her wonderful violin playing, just here.

The wonderful Sarah has also written the following piece, seen below the video, showing you just why you should choose her to entertain you and your guests on your special day - Thank you Sarah! xo

If you'd like to talk to Sarah, I've included her contact details at the end of this piece, or you can leave a comment below this post and I'll pass her your email address! 🤍

Sarah Milner - Talented Wedding Violinist

I'm a Sussex based Violinist who has played for over 70 weddings and can genuinely say that I have enjoyed every single one!

I feel incredibly lucky that I'm able to be part of such emotional and personal moments, with people I really get to know over the planning process. It is incredibly important to me that I keep in contact you up to your wedding date, to ensure you are absolutely happy not only with the music I will be providing, but also to make sure you are confident, relaxed and comfortable with my part in your big day. Even the finer details such as arrival time, parking, dress code and indoor/outdoor weather options are incredibly important, and I take great care to ensure that these are discussed beforehand.

I offer a free consultation (within Sussex) a few months before the wedding to discuss all these details, in order to make sure that everything runs as smoothly and calmly as possible on the day. This is also a great time to organise the musical choices.

I have an extensive repertoire and this ever-growing song selection list is available upon request. I'm also more than happy to look at new pieces of music, so if you have a special song which is not currently on my list, I would be excited to look into learning it for you!

I hope you enjoy the Virtual Wedding Fayre today and thank you for supporting Mind - a fantastic cause which will help a lot of people - please donate if you can. Thank you, and happy wedding planning! Please visit my website, and contact me for any questions, bookings, or more information.

Q&As

1. What is your favourite Wedding Song to play?

Pachelbel's Canon In D is an absolute winner but one thing I love is the idea of playing totally different things for different people, so my favourites often change!

2. Can you play during the evening, or can you only play when I'm walking down the aisle and through the Ceremony?

I play before the ceremony as guests are seated, during the ceremony, for the drinks reception and for the wedding breakfast, but I have also been asked to play for the first dance on one occasion!

3. Do you have any funny Wedding Stories?

One moment I will never forget - there was a 3 week old baby sitting in the front row in the ceremony on their Mum's lap (right in front of where I was sat to play) and this baby was absolutely good as gold! They honestly didn't make a single sound throughout the ceremony AT ALL - no exaggeration!)…. EXCEPT when the Registrar said "Does anyone know of any legal reason why these two should not be married?"... and the baby let out this random sound like a kind of short, sharp yell.... and then stopped again immediately! The whole room erupted with laughter! It was a brilliant moment and made everyone so happy. I'll never forget that!

4. If we have a song in mind for our Big Day, will you learn it?

Absolutely! If I can get a decent backing track and it is sensibly playable on the violin, then we can absolutely discuss these options. I have a song list, but I do accept a few requests where they are possible! It is your day, so it should sound like it!

5. If my Ceremony is at 2pm and my First Dance is at 8pm, can you sing for both?

We would have to look at the logistics of that, as it may involve me having to leave and come back, etc., but I have a list of packages available for different parts of the day. I can tailor make quotes to suit what you require and am certainly happy to look at these options.

6. What do you love most about what you do?

I LOVE seeing people happy! It sounds so cliché but I am a hopeless romantic and do tend to tear up in any ceremony, even if I've only met the couple once! I just like to see it all happen and of course I love to play, so weddings are very much my happy place.

7. Does any Couple you've worked with or Wedding you've played at stand out for you?

I have never played at a wedding which I haven't enjoyed, but the ones that stand out the most to me are those where people had the most fun and took things less seriously. I mean these were all organised beautifully, but on the day, people just enjoyed themselves and that is always fantastic to be a part of. Venue wise, I have been lucky enough to play on Bandstands, at Castles and in some fabulous hotels, so I feel I've been spoilt with these occasions... I also saw an Owl bring the rings down the aisle and then just fly up and sit on the chandelier, so that was pretty unforgettable too!

8. How long can you play for at once?

My packages are available on the wedding section of my website, but generally it is before the ceremony for up to half an hour, 5 songs during the ceremony, up to an hour and a half for the drinks reception and up to an hour for the wedding breakfast. I try to just get short breaks as and when the opportunities present themselves, with minimal disruption to the music.

9. Where is the best place you've ever performed?

The best place EVER is the Albert Hall! I got to play Land Of Hope And Glory as fireworks went off around the ceiling and balloons fell down! It was incredible! I also played on the live semi-final of the X Factor in 2017 for Grace Davies, which was pretty great!

10. How far can you travel & can you play at International Weddings?

Internationally speaking, it would involve prior discussion, contracts and preparation and a personalised quote but I am certainly happy to discuss any ideas you have! Usually I play in the Sussex area with no additional charges, but outside that would incur a reasonable travel cost.

11. Who are you in lockdown with and how are you staying sane/passing the time?

Did I say I was sane? Haha. I am in lockdown with my wonderful Fiancé and our two cats, and we are passing the time working from home where we are able to, watching films, lots of virtual quizzes and zoom chats, and planning our own wedding, so we understand how all this feels right now!

12. With things the way they are at the moment, what's your postponement/cancellation policy?

At the moment, I have said to anyone who has already booked with me for 2020 weddings that if they cancel completely they will not owe the balance payment (or I will refund it if already paid in advance). If they postpone it, I will do everything to accommodate the new date and the deposit will just transfer to the new date. This is a tricky time for everyone so I just want to make sure things can carry on for everyone as normally as is possible!

13. What are your 3 Desert Island Items?

I suppose lockdown has a lot to do with this answer - Unlimited diet coke cans, my phone (with wifi!) and my violin. I think I am demanding too much of this Island!

14. This Wedding Fayre is raising money for Mind, the Mental Health Charity - Why do you personally feel like this is a great cause?

Mental health has affected me and also friends and family over the years, and I have seen the benefit of the work these charities do first-hand. It HAS to be available for people and this is an incredible way to support the work they do and keep making it possible for the people who need the help to be able to access it.

Thank you Sarah, for getting involved in this Event and including an offer in the Virtual Goody Bag! xo
