I chose Gastro Catering to be included in this event, as they create beautiful-looking food, that tastes as good as it looks! I met them at a Wedding Showcase and within the small selection of canapes they'd brought along with them, there was even something I could try! Being a Gluten-free Vegan, that just doesn't ever happen, so it was very much appreciated by this awkward little Foodie!
I wasn't the only one at the Showcase eyeing up their stand, hoping the couples would leave us some samples - in fact, once the day ended, their table became a little meeting spot for Suppliers, all excited to taste their yummy foods! I'd also forgotten my lunch that day, so I'm not ashamed to admit I ate 5 or 6 of them... 🙊
Gastro's Alice has written the following piece, showing you just why you should choose them to keep everyone's taste buds happy and stomachs full on your special day - Thank you Alice! xo
If you'd like to talk to Alice, I've included Gastro's contact details at the bottom of this post, or you can leave a comment at the bottom of this page and I'll pass on your email address! 🤍
Gastro Catering - Yummy Foods for Everyone to Enjoy!
Whilst we love making delicious food for all events, working with a couple to help make their wedding day amazing has to be the best part of our jobs.
Since Gastro started over 10 years ago, we have been a part of over 500 gorgeous wedding days and we still love creating the perfect combination of food, drinks and service to make it your dream day. We specialise in the bespoke- creating fresh ideas, developing, and refining them until you are fully satisfied with our offer.
When most of you start planning your wedding day, you will have never organised anything quite like it before, meaning it can feel a little over-whelming. (Even experienced events professionals can find getting their wedding day exactly right a little daunting) .
As food is such a big part of the day, we are often one of the first suppliers that couples contact and we are with you right from the start to guide you through the planning process. The person who you speak to when you first get in touch with us, will be the same person who is answering your last minute panic email the night before your wedding, meaning we will really get to know you and exactly what your vision is and can make suggestions to make things even better. Feel free to ask us anything, we have done this a few times before so pick our brains, from recommendations of other suppliers, to which napkin colour will match your flowers, we are here to help!
The Best Part of Gastro - The Food
Whether you want a perfectly plated 6 course dining menu or a relaxed sharing feast, we can make it happen. We use high quality ingredients sourced from local suppliers to make every dish, whatever the style it will taste delicious. Bespoke menus are our speciality, and we are more than happy to design a dish specially for you, or adapt something on our menu to match your taste buds.
Choosing a plated menu can add a real sense of occasion to your wedding breakfast, with seasonal dishes to suit everyone’s tastes (and all your guests' dietary requirements), we can assure you we won’t disappoint in appearance or flavour.
If you are thinking of a more informal family style, then sharing food is perfect and probably the style we do most often. Delicious barbecued main courses with fresh colourful salads are perfect for a summer wedding, while warming dishes which can be passed around the table work perfectly in the cooler months of the year.
To help start your celebrations, we have a wide range of canapés to suit all tastes from bite size versions of traditional dishes, such as fish and chips or beef and Yorkshire puddings to those which are a little more quirky.
When your guests are all partied out and need something to soak up the alcohol, we can provide your favourite drunken snack; decorative cheese stations are a popular choice, or something like woodfired pizza or paella, served street food style. We are happy to cater to any individual requests you may have, in the past these have included pesto pasta, mac and cheese with truffle and loaded nachos, yum!
While the food is where we start, we can also provide other key elements to make your day run smoothly. Our amazing team of in-house gastro trained staff will be on hand to make sure you and your guests have everything you need, and give seamless service throughout your wedding day. They will not only serve all the food but can also help with things like calling guests to be seated, and helping your band and other suppliers with any queries on the day so that you can relax and enjoy with your guests.
We can provide any drinks supply and service; we actively keep an eye to make sure your guests never have an empty glass in their hand, and also provide personalised his and hers cocktails, to kegs of local ale. If you would like to provide your own drinks for the day, our experienced bar staff are happy to serve these, and we can provide all the drinks chilling and bar equipment needed.
We know how important it can be to tie everything in with your wedding theme including the styling of your tables. Therefore, we have a beautiful range of glassware, crockery, cutlery, linen and anything else you may need to help with this. We can even help with furniture and décor to make your ideas for your venue come to life.
What is your favourite part of what you do?
The best part is definitely getting to know each couple through the planning process and having the chance to be part of such an important day in their lives. One of the best moments is at the tasting, when we get to see a couple's excitement as their menu ideas come to life and their plans for their wedding day all of a sudden feel real.
What's your favourite of all of your foods/recipes?
It’s so hard to choose just one favourite, so we have chosen a favourite for each part of the wedding! We would definitely choose red pepper arancini with spicy arrabiata sauce as one of our favourite canapes. For the meal itself, a sharing menu with antipasti boards, followed by a barbecue style main with lots of fresh colourful salads and then a dessert station of mini desserts. In the evening we would have to have wood fired pizzas to finish off our wedding feast.
What makes Gastro different to other Wedding Caterers?
We specialise in bespoke and will tailor everything we are offering to exactly suit each wedding, whatever your wishes we will find a way to make it a reality. We really get to know each couple and are happy to offer advice or help with any aspect of your day, as well as providing delicious food.
How many guests can you cater for at once?
We cater for any guest numbers, from intimate weddings of 20 guests, to weddings for over 500. We can advise you, using our experience, on the best options for you to suit the style of your wedding and the number of people attending.
Is there anything you'd love to see trending in Wedding Food or Styling?
Following on from the big trend for more informal sharing style dining, we would love to see more weddings choosing tapas style menus, with lots of different small plates for guests to enjoy. We’d also love to see the trend for street food to continue, particular as it is a great option for evening food. With styling, we would love to see more sustainable décor, using things such as dried flowers, which not only help reduce waste, but look amazing. Also, use of more colourful linen, plates and glasses as part of the table decor, to help tie everything in with a colour theme.
Does any wedding you've catered/styled stand out for you?
Harriet and Jack’s wedding in September last year stands out as being especially beautiful. Harriet really cared about every detail and put a lot of time into the preparation, which definitely showed on the day.
She chose all her tableware to complement her rustic wooden tables and green foliage to make sure all was in keeping with her polished-rustic theme. They chose a delicious menu of canapes to go alongside champagne during arrival.
For their wedding breakfast they had seafood sharing boards to start, then barbecued beef with seasonal sides, followed by autumnal eton mess and dark chocolate brownie. Cocktails served from an LED bar and fish and chip cones in the evening finished the whole day off perfectly and she then had an english garden party with afternoon tea the next day, for guests who had stayed overnight. An amazing wedding weekend and certainly one which will stick in our memories.
How are you passing the time in lockdown?
Lots of the gastro team have been keeping busy by volunteering for a not for profit organisation, Socialbox.
Socialbox sells boxes of fresh food to raise funds to supply free food to NHS workers. They are using our amazing local suppliers to source all the produce and packing the boxes in the gastro kitchens, while events aren’t taking place.
We are also using the time to update our menus and do other tasks we don’t get time to do during the busy event season, to make sure we are ready to go as soon as we can get back to events.
With things the way they are at the moment, what is your Cancellation/Postponement Policy for couples who have had to cancel their Wedding?
We cannot imagine how difficult it is for couples at the moment with all the uncertainty, and how horrible it must be to have to rearrange their wedding. We are being as flexible as possible to help couples find a new date for their wedding, whether that is later this year, or in 2021.
We have been talking to venues and other suppliers to try and make sure that this is possible for everyone. For couples who are unsure if they will have to postpone at the moment, we have been arranging back-up dates to make it as easy as possible for them if they do have to make the decision to rearrange.
What are your 3 Desert Island Items?
A helicopter, fuel and a pilot so that we could get off the desert island!
Do you only serve food, or drinks too?
We are more than happy to help with either providing drinks, or serving drinks which couples provide, as well as serving the food. We can be as involved as you would like in terms of what we provide for the day, from dealing just with the food, to organising everything such as the marquee, florist, entertainment, etc., using the relationships with all the amazing suppliers we know, to bring the wedding day together.
I've seen you can create personalised cocktails - What's your favourite cocktail?
Our favourite cocktails are; the gin-based Bohemian garden, perfect for summer with its delicious elderflower foam. In the cooler months of the year we love the warming cinnamon and nutmeg in a winter spiced porn star martini. And last but by no means least a salted caramel espresso martini is perfect as an after dinner treat in place of tea and coffee.
Do you cater to people with dietary requirements, like nut allergies, gluten and dairy intolerance, and/or vegans, for example?
We are always happy to come up with the perfect menu to suit any requirements, to make sure none of the guests go home hungry. Our menus include dishes to suit all common dietary requirements and all menus include the allergy information for each dish, to help guide couples as to what is suitable for each guest. We can also adapt dishes or create something bespoke too, which caters for everyone.
This Wedding Fayre is raising money for Mind, the Mental Health Charity - Why do you personally feel like this is a great cause?
Mind is a brilliant charity and is very relevant at the moment, with the effect all the changes and uncertainty have had on people's mental health. Everyone knows someone who has suffered with poor mental health at some point in their life, if they have not had any problems themselves, and making sure the right help and support is available is vital in keeping everyone healthy and happy.
