Amethyst Weddings - Eco-Friendly Wedding Planning
Arranging a wedding can take anything from 2 to 3 years to plan, from engagement through to your wedding day itself.
Already popular in the USA, hiring a wedding planner is becoming more widespread here in the UK, given the nature of our busy work and social lives.
Each service I supply is as unique as the couple getting married. Not everyone wants to relinquish all their wedding planning but a helping hand is sometimes all that is needed to provide some support and peace of mind.
What areas do you cover & can you plan International Weddings?
I predominately cover Hampshire but given the great transport links across the South I’m able to work across most parts of the south coast. My expertise and primary knowledge is the South of England but I am open to working elsewhere.
What is your favourite part of what you do?
I love the people I get to meet and work with but I also love being able to use my creativity on a regular basis.
What makes Amethyst Weddings different to other Wedding Planning Services?
I have to say ME because I offer my own unique style of working with my clients. My clients put their trust in me with a very important life event so it’s important to us all that we find the best way of working together. There is no “one size fits all” with me.
Why did you decide to become a Wedding Planner?
Sounds corny, but wedding planning found me. I was always the one at work that got asked to arrange gift collections for birthdays, etc. Then that progressed to the office Christmas party and leaving do’s.
Running my own business was something that I kept delaying whilst working in a full-time job. When I had my son in 2012, I decided that was the perfect time to make a start and the rest is history.
Are there any trends you'd really like to see more of in Weddings?
I’d love to see more sustainable weddings. I think people are more aware of the damage we are doing to our environment and I think this will start to filter down into special events and weddings. If places like Glastonbury can put an embargo on single-use plastic, then why can’t smaller events and parties?
Does any Wedding you've planned stand out for you?
My favourite part of each wedding is always the wedding day itself, because it’s great to see how months of work come together on the day. You are effectively asking me which of my babies I love the most. Can’t do it, sorry 😉
Who are you in lockdown with and how are you staying sane/passing the time?
I’m currently in lockdown with my husband, who is also working from home and my 8 year old son, who I’m homeschooling.
We aren’t being too strict with the school work, as it’s mentally draining for us both. It’s been 30 years since I left school, so teaching methods are a lot different nowadays. We are taking each day as it comes and not letting ourselves get stressed about anything.
As a Vegan myself, I know there's a lot of incredible vegan food out there, but a lot of people think vegan and think "bland, tasteless and boring" (because let's be honest, it can be!). My steak-loving partner will admit that before meeting me, he felt the same, but now loves Vegan Food too!
What would you say to the couples debating whether or not to have a Vegan Wedding?
Vegan and plant based food is becoming so widely available now, there are so many choices. My husband will give anything a try. I’m a bit more cautious with products that mimic meat products, as I’ve been meat free for over 30 years.
I did an experiment a couple of Christmases ago. All of the evening buffet food was vegan. My in-laws tend to turn their noses up at “new” food, they are your traditional “meat and 2 veg” types. They tucked in to everything and were genuinely shocked when I told them it was ALL vegan. Their response was “what even the sausage rolls?”.
I would always be mindful of food allergies but I think half the time people don’t actually know what they are eating anyhow. I personally think if you want a meat and dairy free menu at your event, then that is your choice and you shouldn’t be swayed by the negative opinions of others.
What are your 3 Desert Island Items?
An infinite supply of rum punch, Jason Momoa or Chris Hemsworth (no complaints from me which I’m stranded with), ready salted crinkle cut crisps.
What's your favourite Wedding Theme/Style and why?
Personally I do like a bit of glamour, drama and sparkle, but my favourite weddings reflect the personalities of the couple.
This Wedding Fayre is raising money for Mind, the Mental Health Charity - Why do you personally feel like this is a great cause?
I have had a personal struggle with depression and anxiety for quite a few years now and sadly our family has also had personal experience of suicide. I think it’s very important to reach out for help as it does and can save lives.
Thank you Sian, for getting involved in this Event! xo
